After I had created my mood boards, I decided to do a quick mind map of name ideas with some rough sketches to start to process for the branding. I started off by just listing down as many words as I could think of that somewhat related to the concept. I did these in sections at first, using the words ‘colour’, ‘character’ and ‘categorise’ as a starting point for the word association. I then added some other words around the edges, outside of these categories that could be related, even if it is loosely.
From this point, I started to mix and match words to think of potential branding names. Some ideas I liked, others I hated, but I wrote them all down, nonetheless.
Next, I used some of the name ideas to sketch out some logos. This is only the initial stage of the logo design process, and I feel that it will develop as I put more research in, as well as using digital means to sketch some logos as well.
I like the name and logo sketch for ‘Soul Spectrum’, but a concern I had with this name is that it might be linked to autism, with the word ‘spectrum’. I think ‘The Colour Character’ would work well as this already has the recognition from the foundations of the concept, yet it has not been used as a brand name for anything. I was worried that if I named it something generic, the brand might get lost in general talks of the concept, but then that could also be a good thing; if someone were to look up ‘The Colour Character’ in search of information about the concept, my brand would come up.
