As astrology was one of the main concepts that inspired this project, particularly the commercialisation of merchandise relating to it, I wanted to look for some examples of products for inspiration on what I could potentially create.
Notebooks
I really like how these notebooks are designed in the same style, yet each have their own individual colour scheme and customised text. Each star sign has their own set of characteristics and personality description, giving customers an identity which they can resonate with. I think it would interesting to create something similar to this with my 'colour characters'.
Apparel
A lot of the apparel designed for the star signs feel slightly cliched to me. They usually look quite basic, consisting of the star sign constellations/symbols. I would like to look into more creative t-shirt designs for my own project.
Candles
I think that designing a range of candles for my project would be really interesting. I like the idea of designing the packaging a label to describe each colour character. Also, I think it would be a cool idea to make the scents for each candle match the vibe of each personality type and colour. So for example, the pink character candle could be candyfloss scented, the green character could be pine scented, the red character could be cherry scented, the yellow character could be honey scented, the purple character could be lavender scented, the blue character could be sort of an ocean breeze scent, the orange character could be orange scented or maybe a bonfire scent.
Cold Cups
I drink a lot of coffee and have my own cold cup that I love, so I think it could be a fun idea to design some for my own project, however I don't quite know how I would do this just yet as they can often look tacky if designed poorly.
Tote Bags
Similar to the notebooks, I like that these tote bags are designed in a similar style but are all unique to their sign. I think you can take a lot of different approaches to designing tote bags as they are essentially blank canvases to be creative.
Jewellery
Creating jewellery is a slightly more difficult skill to master as a graphic designer. At least with the candles I would be able to focus on designing packaging using my existing knowledge even if I struggled with the actual candle making. However, jewellery is more of an intricate art to master. However, with time if I decided to expand further on my project in the future it could be an interesting pathway to go down. For this colour character concept I would probably focus on using crystals or gem stones for each colour.
Prints
Designing prints was one of the first thoughts that came to mind when I had the idea for my major project. I love graphic prints, my wall is plastered in them. I am excited to get creative and start designing my own prints. I am going to do a separate blog post on the style of graphic prints that I like as inspiration.
